The ROARING 20’s at the Absolute Hotel Limerick

The Absolute hotel hosted a corporate night on the 7th July 2016.  On the night guests were transported back to an era of prohibition, head pieces and the Charleston of course.
On the night there was a chance to win two return flights to New York or Boston sponsored by Aer Lingus, overnight stays in the Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel, spa treatment in Vanilla Browns Spa, dinner and lunch in the Absolute Bar & Grill and bottles of wine.
The night was opened when arriving guests enjoyed a signature glass of prosecco, 1920’s music and bit sized starters of ham hock terrine and shrimp gazpacho shooters.  Catriona Tierney from Limerick’s live 95fm hosted the interactive game show created by National Game Shows.  The quiz had questions from the 20’s era and modern day which could not be googled.  A break in play was completed with a local and traditional feast of Roast turkey & maple glazed ham served with sage and pistachio stuffing, roast rustic vegetables, turkey gravy and spiced cranberry sauce. Salmon Wellington leek coulis, spiced red radish, cauliflower mousseline and winter wilted chard. Chestnut & wild mushroom tatins balsamic glazed shallots, savoy cabbage roasted carrots and madeira sauce.  After the main course 1920’s meet hip hop dancers entertained the crowd prior to the quiz recommencing.
The 3rd round commenced with four tables as joint leaders.  Swopping positions throughout the course of the night finally there was a winning table.  Before the winner was announced a quick pause for dessert featuring chocolate jaffa bomb, mulled wine poached pear, iced chestnut cheesecake and Christmas pudding.
Table 1 was announced as the winners and were all in with a chance to win some top prizes.  The prizes were presented in crackers and were selected at random.  A huge pop and the winners were declared!

Absolute Hotel at Limerick’s first ‘Urban Food Fest’

For one night only, the historic Limerick Milk Market is being transformed into a street food mecca for ‘Urban Food Fest’, as producers, market traders, restaurants, and hotels come together for a unique Limerick food event.

The event on the evening of Thursday June 16th will be open to the public with free entry, and guests will purchase tokens as currency to enable them to sample taster plates from various stalls (€15 for 5 tokens).

A family friendly event, Urban Food Fest will take place in the Milk Market from 6pm until 10pm as the venue will be transformed to create a unique and festive evening atmosphere that will showcase some of the best food and drink Limerick has to offer.

Inspired by the culture of international street food, the food offering will also have an Irish twist and everything will be local from Limerick and the Absolute Hotel will showcase this through their Philly cheese pretzel baguette.  A slow roasted rib of beef in a pretzel baguette, sautéed onions and melted cheese with garlic aioli.  To finish is a very grown up lemon and blueberry trifle.  Lemon posset, crème Chantilly, blueberry and thyme jelly, citrus and shortbread biscuits.

There will be games for the kids too and entertainment for the evening will be courtesy of The Limerick Lady female-fronted event of music, poetry, and dance.

Father's day

Not to get all philosophical on you, but with Father's Day on the horizon, you might be wondering what to do to make the man in your life feel special.

With that in mind the Absolute Hotel Limerick posed the question: what is modern man?

He still mows the lawn, right? Right, but he has a skincare regime too. He packs school lunches for the kids? Yes, but he also enjoys a good beer. He wouldn't say no to a steak, would he? Indeed, he wouldn't - but just a salad with that would be great.

So, this June 19, will your man be content with the typical gift of boxer shorts, slippers or a spanner set?  Or would he appreciate a pamper session, a night away minus the children, good hearty food and craft beer?

Do you know a modern man?  When you walk in the door of this ultra-modern hotel, you will find the ultra-modern man.

Meet Chrystian, our much-loved head concierge.  He is 30 years old and married with three children, aged 3, 6 and 10.  What is a typical day for him?

Chrystian and his wife both work full time and the household has a 6am start.  In this hour prior to work at 7am, Chrystian makes the kids' lunches, walks the dogs, eats breakfast and gets to the hotel.

At 3.30 in the afternoon he leaves work, collects the kids and starts homework.  Chrystian manages to fit in playing his bagpipes for half an hour and also goes to music lessons twice a week!  At 7pm his wife returns to a homemade dinner.  What a guy!

Ring any bells, ladies? These days, it seems that childcare and domestic duties are spread around more evenly and modern man is here to stay.
But that kind of hero deserves special consideration, so give your modern man the gift he deserves this father's day.

Book the Modern Man Package including overnight stay for two, hearty breakfast and 3 course dinner and a craft beer in the Absolute Bar & Grill, with a ‘man's world spa package’in Vanilla Browns spa and late check out.
